Construction Maintenance Level 1 at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for students seeking a general construction qualification.

Course content

Students work in a modern workshop environment and learn skills in a range of trade areas, including Brickwork, Carpentry, Plastering, Painting/Decorating and Plumbing. Theory classes are also delivered and include relative trade knowledge, including Health and Safety, Management of materials etc. Other lessons will cover key skills in numeracy, communication and IT.

Entry requirements

You will be required to attend an interview and a skills test will need to be undertaken together with an initial assessment of Maths and English to ensure learners are capable of progressing on the course

Assessment

Experience will be gained in the workshop through practical activities and assessments. Underpinning knowledge will be delivered in the classroom and IT suite, where study will be interactive and informative

Future opportunities

Having completed this qualification, you will have experienced a range of construction trades and decided which one you want to progress into. You can go onto a level 2 trade course of your choice or continue with Maintenance at level 2. Other options include undertaking an NVQ or an apprenticeship.

This course provides an excellent foundation upon which to build a career within the construction industry.
