Music BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Burnley College

Course description

This practical course studies music styles from around the world and enables exploration of composition, performance and recording studio technologies. There is access to a range of industry standard equipment including Apple Mac software and termly live music performances are held to showcase compositional skills.

You will study a variety of disciplines such as sculpture, graphic design, photography, life drawing and painting, textiles, surface pattern design, TV, film and media production, acting, directing, stage management, music composition, sound recording, musical theory and instrumental and vocal skills.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language or Mathematics. Music GCSE is desirable OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade and a GCSE grade C in English Language or Mathematics. Music GCSE is desirable. Music theory grades in the chosen instrument are desirable.


Assessment is via coursework.

The extensive facilities accessed by our Creative Arts and Media students include Apple Mac and PC suites, art and design studios, a dance studio, a digital video suite including a chroma key studio, industry standard fashion design, textile printing and production facilities, multi-track digital sound recording studios and music and performance rehearsal spaces, including a 160-seater Performance Theatre.
