Course description

A Level Mathematics is the most popular A Level subject with 97,627 students studying it in 2018. The entry requirement is a Grade 7 at GCSE Mathematics. It is an interesting and challenging course which extends the methods you learned at GCSE and includes applications of mathematics, such as Statistics and Mechanics as well as pure mathematics

Course content

Statistics – An understanding of probability and risk is important in careers like insurance, medicine, engineering and the sciences.

Mechanics – Mechanics is particular useful to students studying physics and engineering. Assessment: The course is assessed entirely by three written examinations at the end of the two year course.

At the end of the course you will be awarded a Pearson Edexcel A Level in Mathematics. In some cases a qualification in Mathematics will reduce the grades required for entry to a degree course in a related subject. Maths is the only A-Level proven to increase earnings in later life by an average of 10%

Paper 2: Pure 2 hour paper

Paper 3: Statistics & Mechanics 2 hour paper

each paper is worth 33.3% of the qualification
