Physical Education A Level *FEES PAYABLE* at Eastbourne College

Course description

Your studies will include a diverse array of different modules under the broad umbrella of Sport and Physical Education. These modules range from the study of human movement, anatomy and physiology, exercise and sports physiology to the many psychological issues which affect sports performance as well as focusing on the historical and socio-cultural aspects impacting on sport today, including specific studies on the Olympic Games. The focus of this course will be on participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle.

Course content

Physical Education is a stimulating, accessible and enjoyable subject for those with an interest in sport. You may be interested in studying a sports related degree at university, in which case an A level in Physical Education is an ideal foundation, if not a pre-requisite. Physical Education is now accepted as a standard A Level in nearly all UK universities and you should not be hindered if you do Physical Education at A Level but wish to study something else at university.

Following the success of London 2012, you will be highly informed about developments and plans for Sport in Schools and how to inspire the next generation. A study of Physical Education could lead to a myriad of career opportunities in the field of sport, leisure and recreation.


At AS you will be examined by means of a two hour written exam and you will be assessed in two chosen activities from two different activity profiles and in response to a live performance. At A2 you will be examined by means of a two and a half hour written exam and you will be assessed in one chosen activity and in response to a live performance.
