ESOL Entry Level 1 up to Level 2 at City Skills Centre - Salford City College

Course description

If English is not your first language then you will have the opportunity to study English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Salford College's highly successful and popular ESOL Department. You will improve your level of speaking, reading, writing, grammar and spelling in classes with students from all over the world. In addition, you will have the opportunity to improve your mathematics skills

Course content

We have courses from Entry Leve 1 up to Level 2. Through our initial interivew and short assessment process we will ensure that the study programme for you is appropriate and individualised to best suit your aspirations for future study, training or employment. You wlll also have your mathematics level assessed to ensure you are places on the right level of course.

ESOL students assessed with a higher level of English (Entry Level 3 and above) will also have the opportunity to access a vocational pathway as part of their programme of study such as:

  • Introduction to construction:  Learn the basics of painting, decorating, plumbing, joinery, plastering, and engineering. This course is very practical and hands-on and you will soon be able to do lots of basic tasks
  • Introduction to hairdressing and beauty: Learn about treatments offered, meet and greet clients, take bookings and carry out treatments such as styling hair, providing manicures and hand massage
  • Introduction to hospitality and catering: This course provides you with the opportunity to develop skills in the hospitality industry. You will have the chance to learn how to prepare and cook a variety of dishes and menus. There will also be opportunities to gain an insight into customer services skills, teamwork and health and safety in the catering industry
