Unit 1 - G481: Mechanics

Motion, Forces in Action, Work and Energy
Written exam 1 hour January AS: 30% A2: 15%

Unit 2 - G482: Electrons, Waves & Protons

Electric current, resistance, DC circuits, waves and quantum physics
Written exam 1 hour 45 mins June AS : 50% A2 : 25%

Unit 3 - Practical Skills in Physics

Qualitative Quantitative and Evaluative Tasks
Internally assessed practical AS: 20% A2: 10%

Unit 4 - G484: The Newtonian World

Newton’s Laws and momentum, circular motion & oscillations, thermal physics
Written exam 1 hour January A2 : 15%

Unit 5 - G485: Fields, Particles and Frontiers of Physics

Electric and magnetic fields, capacitors and exponential decay, nuclear physics, medical imaging and modelling the universe.
Written exam 1 hour 45 mins June A2 : 25%

Unit 6 Practical Skills in Physics

Qualitative Quantitative and Evaluative Tasks
Internally Assessed Practicals A2 : 10%

Entry requirements

Candidates must come from a Double Science or Separate Sciences background. Double award students must have achieved a minimum of B grades at Core and Additional Science. Separate Science students must have achieved a B grade in Physics.
