Performing Arts (Double option) BTEC Level 3 at Deanery High School and Sixth Form College
The BTEC Nationals in Performing Arts aim to provide a broad educational base for further training, further education and employment within the arts sector. The qualification develops students’ abilities through knowledge and skills gained in the different parts of the programme. Students explore devising plays, theatre in education, contemporary theatre, musical theatre, script writing and the performing arts business and industry. The course also explores a massive range of key skills which are transferable to other subjects. Students can choose to study the Subsidiary Diploma (1 A level) or the full Diploma (2 A levels).
We follow the Edexcel specification for BTEC Nationals. Year 1 There are 3 core units which must be studied over the 2 year course: 1. Performance Workshop 2. Performing Arts Business 3. Performing to an Audience In the first year students study the following units Devising Plays, Musical Theatre and Theatre in Education/ Theatre for Children. Year 2 In the second year students study: Contemporary Theatre, Script Writing, Rehearsing for Performance, Singing Skills. However, the course is very flexible and other units can be made available for dancers, film and TV acting and stand-up comedy etc.
