Fish and Countryside – Level 1 Diploma at Sparsholt College

Course description

This course will introduce you to the feeding, handling, movement and welfare of fish and give an understanding of maintaining the countryside to promote habitats as well as help you develop employability, communication, IT, English and Maths skills.

Course content

This course is likely to be run in conjunction with the Level 1 Game and Countryside Management which also gives you the opportunity to learn about game birds and shoot management.

Learning in a realistic environment will give you the skills and confidence to progress further in education or into an Apprenticeship. During on and off site practicals you’ll work with other students to develop your team working skills and will gain experience of working in a wide variety of sectors such as sports fishery management, fish farming, rivers, pheasant rearing and estate and habitat maintenance.

Entry requirements

GCSEs at grade D to G plus a good reference from your school or college.

Future opportunities

• Level 2 Diploma in Fish Management or related subject

• Level 2 Apprenticeship in Fish Management

• Trout, carp or ornamental fish farms

• Sport fisheries

• Aquatic retail shops
