Sport and Exercise Science BTEC at Hartlepool Sixth Form College
The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma Sport & Exercise Science is designed for those wishing to pursue a career or HE pathway that is more sport-science focused. By completing Year1 successfully and progressing to, and completing Year 2 learners will have achieved a 3x A Level equivalent qualification. Modules covered include the Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Testing and Training, Research Methods, Sports Coaching, Sport Psychology and Sports Injuries. Learners on this course will have the opportunity to work with local organisations in the delivery of sporting opportunities in order to experience real life delivery to groups of participants.
Standard entry requirements are 5 A-C grades including English and Science, although exceptions may be made for talented practical performers.
Sessions will be a mixture of theory and practical lessons and wherever possible underpinning theory will also be demonstrated in a practical context. There will be a variety of assessment methods used and learners will have a thorough understanding of the evidence they are expected to produce. All learners on the Programme will be challenged to progress to the BTEC L3 Extended Diploma Sport& Exercise Science (top-up qualification in YR2). Students who complete this course, will gain a wide range of skills which will make them suitable for apprenticeships in the sports sector.
Students who complete this course could progress into career roles such as Leisure Assistant, Assistant Sports Coach, Gym Instructor, Lifestyle trainer, Sport development or be involved in the administration of sport and leisure. The course is specifically designed for those who want to study Sports Therapy or Physiotherapy at HE Level
