Course description

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness route) provides a vocational insight into various areas of sport employment and education. It provides a solid foundation in a wide variety of sporting context enabling you to develop essential skills for gaining employment in the sport industry or progressing further in education.

Course content

  • Key units included cover areas such as:

    • Coaching and assessing sports performance
    • Fitness testing and training methods
    • Sports injuries and nutrition
    • Sports development
    • Contemporary issues in sport
    • Anatomy and physiology for sport


Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at grade C or above including English and Maths


Written reports, practical assessments, portfolio’s, presentations, posters/leaflets and various online assessments

Financial information

Students can apply for a bursary to assist with travel costs. Applications for the bursary fund are means tested.

Future opportunities

On completion of the BTEC Extended Diploma, students will have the opportunity to progress on to higher education or move into employment.

Learners will have the opportunity to represent BFC CS&ET in the AOC League or gain vital coaching work experience with the Community programmes extensive delivery of activities throughout Barnsley.
