Course description

What is the Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Travel and Tourism? The qualification will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to embark upon a successful career in the tourism industry, or progress to a more responsible job if you are already in employment. The course is designed to be adaptable to your needs, interests and career aspirations and consists of four compulsory core units plus a choice of eight units from a wide variety of specialist areas (which totals 720 guided learning hours). The course allows you to focus on what interests you within the industry, for example: the European market and long-haul travel destinations or retail and business operations. Please note that the units studied may vary to meet local or learner needs. Where will this qualification take me? Employment opportunities With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a wide variety of potential careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: air cabin crew, tourist guide, hotelier or travel agent. Further vocational and academic qualifications The BTEC National Certificate in Travel and Tourism has the equivalence of two GCE A Levels, and it is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications. Travel and Tourism How llong will it take me to complete this qualification? The length of the course is dependant on the centre. Normally, it will take one academic year to complete but it can be studied for two years or more. What are the entry requirements? The entry requirements for the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Travel and Tourism are laid down by individual centres. Fundamentally you should have a broad education including, for example, a BTEC First in Travel and Tourism and/or four GCSEs (graded C or above) and, in addition, the interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification. Future opportunities

NoThis short course offers a specialist qualification for entering employment in travel and tourism or progressing onto further education such as BTEC Higher Nationals in Travel and Tourism or related degree programmes. You could also go on to study a relevant NVQ vocational qualification, which could be work-based. With further training, you could go into a job related to travel and tourism such as a Travel Agent or a Cabin Crew Assistant. The course provides a work related programme of study so you could go straight into a job as it helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers are looking for, especially in the creative industries.
