English Literature A level at Tupton Hall School

Course description

Success in this course will stem from an interest in reading fiction. If you are interested in studying plays, poetry and novels and exploring the layers of meanings within them, then this could be the course for you. Studying literature is about getting to grips with a wide variety of writing in different styles and from different periods.

Course content

The school follows the AQA AS/A Level English Literature course in both Year 12 and 13.

You will study a range of poems, plays and novels from a whole range of different genres and styles. You’ll also study a combination of modern and more traditional texts.

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in English Literature and English Language, plus an interest in widening your reading. Must also have an interest in writing and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.


 Some of the course will lead to exams and other parts will be assessed through coursework.
