Biology at St Aidan's and St John Fisher's Associated Sixth Form

Course description

The AQA AS and A2 course provides a coherent and thorough understanding of Biology and its relevance to areas like modern medicine and gene technology. The course is a very popular choice, with some 200 students taking the subject in year 12.

AS Units:

Unit 1: Biology and Disease
Unit 2: Variety of Living Organisms
Unit 3: Practical and Investigative Skills

A2 Units:

Unit 4: Populations and Environment
Unit 5: Control in Cells and Organisms
Unit 6: Practical & Investigative Skills

Entry requirements

Students should have gained a Grade B in GCSE Separate Science Biology or a Grade A in GCSE Additional Science (Coordinated Science).

A grade B in Maths and in English is also expected. On very rare occasions students who do not meet these criteria may be able to take the course after a recommendation from their GCSE Biology teacher.
