Wood Occupations - Site Carpentry Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at PETROC

Course description

Wood Occupations includes Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery. An Apprentice will also study for the Construction Diploma Level 2 and the NVQ Diploma Level 2 in Wood Occupations. The Apprenticeship can also be studied through day release.

During your time at college, theory sessions are taught in fully equipped classrooms with Smart Boards and other teaching and learning devices. Workshops are used to deliver the practical training.

Course content

The framework for an apprentice in Site Carpentry Level 2 includes: The NVQ Diploma Level 2 (work based), the Diploma in Site Carpentry Level 2 (college based), Functional skills in Maths and English at Level 1, ERR (Employers Rights and Responsibilities) and PLTS (Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills).

Entry requirements

You must be employed in order to start this programme. Enthusiasm for your subject and a willingness to work hard are essential.


A trained and skilled assessor will visit you in the workplace to monitor your progress and to assess your skills and knowledge. The assessor will give you targets to achieve until the next visit.

Future opportunities

Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to an apprenticeship at Level 3 in Site Carpentry. You must be employed to be able to complete the NVQ Diploma Level 3.
