Economics A Level at Ponteland Community High School

Course description


Students who are interested in looking more deeply into the world around them, how and why it functions the way it does.

Those interested in how choices are made by people, businesses and Governments and the impact of those choices on others.

Students who want a perspective on some of the most pressing and challenging problems we face today.

Course content

You will learn about the following areas of Micro and Macro Economics:

Markets and market failure.

The UK economy – performance and policy.

Business behaviour and the labour market.

A global perspective (international economics, poverty and inequality, emerging and developing economies, the financial sector, role of the state)

Entry requirements

C in English and B in maths


AS Level:

Paper 1: Introduction to markets and mar ket failure. 1 hour 30 minutes (50% of AS Level)

Paper 2: The UK economy – performance and policies. 1 hour 30 minutes. (50% of A S Level)

A Level:

Paper 1: Markets and business behaviour. 2 hrs . (35% of A Level)

Paper 2: The national and global economy. 2 hrs . (35% of A Level)

Paper 3: Microeconomics and macroeconomics. 2 hrs . (30% of A Level)
