Creative Writing AS Level at Guildford College

Course description

If you’re interested in journalism or writing as a career this is a good course to study, complimenting English Language or Literature or English Literature.

It is equally useful if you want to develop your ability to express yourself in writing for a range of audiences - a skill that can be applied to the professional world of work and university and the wide variety of writing tasks completed within it.

Creative Writing is firmly a distinct discipline within higher education, leading to a range of professional careers within the creative and cultural industries. This course is designed to introduce you to Creative Writing, separate from, but complementing, the study of Arts and English subjects. You will have access to our modern well equipped Learning Resource Centre and learning hub.

 

Course content

You submit two creative pieces of coursework and a reflective commentary and also sit an exam answering two questions from a choice of four. Both will involve the production of texts based on practical writing scenarios.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and English Literature

Assessment

Exams and coursework.

Future opportunities

Degrees in creative writing, journalism, media, literature and related subjects.
