Animal Care Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma at Wigan & Leigh College

Course description

This is an exciting course for people who have a keen interest in animals and enjoy a hands on approach to learning.

Course content

You will study: Day to day care of animals to provide food and water, cleaning and maintaining animal accommodation, anatomy and physiology, animal biology including nutrition, growth, digestion and reproduction, monitoring animal's well-being and health. Students will undertake both practical and theory sessions to gain the knowledge and skills required to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.



Entry requirements

GCSE TARIFF

A minimum of 5 A*-D/ 9-3 GCSE subjects or equivalent including maths or English and science

Assessment

You will be required to complete course work and assignments

The College works in partnership with Thompson House, where we have a purpose built animal farm with a variety of animals including: rabbits, ducks, geese, peacocks, guinea pigs, pigs, goats and many others.

    • Our Parson's Walk Centre houses a wide range of vocational courses and provides a unique and exciting atmosphere.

      The Centre features the award winning Wheel restaurant, together with other outstanding facilities that provide hands on work experience including the Image Centre, Florist Shop and Travel Shop.

      In addition, our classrooms offer a comfortable and professional working environment which is exemplified by our £20,000 state-of-the-art Apple Mac suite.

      This Centre also houses the College's largest Learning Resource Centre to provide help and support to all students in the use of the library and IT facilities. Our dedicated team of staff are on hand to provide assistance with electronic books and databases, information skills and one-to-one sessions. Laptops, iPads and Samsung tablets are just a selection of the range of facilities available.

      This Centre is completed with our Employment Services team who are here to offer you a personal information, advice and guidance session to identify areas of development and agree goals to set you on your path to gaining employment.
