Course description

Do you have a passion for social media and digital marketing and want to build a career in a fast paced, fast growing industry?

Our Digital Marketing Apprenticeship is a great way to start your creative career. You will learn lots of new and innovative digital skills from building and optimising websites to coding and creating social media campaigns.

Manchester’s ambition is to become one of the world’s top 20 digital cities in the next few years, with the digital and creative industries expected to generate over 23,000 jobs by 2020.
The skills needs of many companies are growing rapidly and continually evolving with many struggling to attract and retain talent; so there’s no better time to consider a career in this fast paced and growing digital sector.
Our Digital Marketing Apprenticeship lasts for 12 months and has been designed specifically for those students who want to start their career in the digital industry. Throughout the Level 3 Apprenticeship, you will learn from masters and digital specialists with years of industry experience.


Course content

What type of jobs are available?
Careers within the digital sector are varied and suit all types of personalities. However people who demonstrate certain qualities tend to suit certain job roles more than others. The two categories below should help give you an idea of which role you might be more suited to.
Techi Type (TT)
  • Technical minded
  • Good at maths
  • Good at physics
  • Enjoy problem solving
  • Curious about how things work • Enjoy using spreadsheets
  • Like to find solutions

Social Type (ST)

  • Outgoing
  • Sociable
  • Organised
  • Good at multi-tasking
  • Enjoy researching
  • Good at English
  • Enjoy writing


ST jobs: Typical ST digital roles include social media, public relations, content writer, online media buyers.

TT jobs: Typical TT roles include search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay-per-click (PPC) specialists, web analysts, developers, coders.

Things you can start doing now:
  • Start your own blog and update it regularly
  • Produce a portfolio of work
  • Create a Twitter account and grow your followers
  • Set up a Google+ profile and build a community
  • Set up a Wordpress website
  • Check out and learn how to code



Entry requirements

To enrol you will need to be predicted (or have achieved) at least five GCSE’s Grades A - C including English. You will also need to pass The Apprentice Academy assessment process which we will tell you more about once you apply.


You will have to attend our two-day assessment process:
  • Day 1: Familiarisation session and getting to know each other
  • Day 2: Providing the tools and techniques you need to secure the job you want, with a full day of interview preparation and training.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will get assessed in the workplace via your career coach visits (once a month) and every six to eight weeks you will attend a workshop at The Apprentice Academy.

Financial information

You will earn a starting salary of between £124 to £230+ per week, and the salary will vary depending on each employer.

All the employers we work are committed to investing long term in their employees, therefore the chances of being offered a permanent jobs are high.
  • 84% of our apprentices achieve their qualification – 15% above the average national rate.
  • 93% of apprentices who start our apprentice programme complete it successfully and gain their qualification — compared to a regional average of 69.7%.
