Mathematics at St Francis Xavier's College

Course description

Course Structure:

Three modules of equal weighting in both year 12 and year 13.

Year 12
Core Mathematics 1 (C1)
Core Mathematics 2 (C2)
Statistics (S1)

Core Mathematics 3 (C3)
Core Mathematics 4 (C4)
Mechanics 1 (M1)

Each module is examined by one paper lasting one hour and 30 minutes.The Core Mathematics papers will examine knowledge and understanding of proof, Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometric functions, Sequences and Series, Differentiation and Integration.

The Mechanics paper will examine knowledge and understanding of Mathematical models in Mechanics, Vectors, Kinematics, Dynamics, Statics and Moments.

The Statistics paper will examine representation of data, Probability, Correlation and Regression, Random variables and the Normal distribution.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to study AS Mathematics should obtain a grade A at GCSE level.

GCSE grade B will be considered by the Department on an individual basis.
