Progression to Automotive Engineering - Level 1 at West Suffolk College

Course description

This qualification is designed to engage and motivate 14-19 year olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry.

The qualification has a practical approach to assessment and includes many visual questioning techniques, which will stimulate and interest the learner. The learning outcomes are assessed by a variety of task-based assessment, observation, oral questioning and on-line assessments. The Diploma is currently suitable as the vocational subject-based learning component of Foundation Learning.

Course content

This Level 1 qualification is designed to help learners aged 14-19 years old to develop key personal and social skills, behaviours and attitudes that will build confidence in their own abilities and also how to demonstrate and apply these effectively. The Award aims to achieve this by using practical tasks, set in the retail automotive context. These tasks allow learners to tackle new activities and challenges individually and as part of a group. They will improve learners' social interaction and help them to develop skills that will prepare them to look for, obtain and maintain employment. The qualification meets the Personal and Social Development (PSD) requirements within the Foundation Learning programme, which supports learners in their preparation to make the step from school to work life.

This qualification is designed to form the Personal and Social Development (PSD) component of Foundation Learning. It will complement IMI Awards technical Foundation Learning qualifications.
