Course description

It is physically and academically demanding, requiring motivation and commitment. All practical work will take place in the College's professionally equipped Dance Studio. Critical thinking is essential and this course will suit those who are inquisitive, creative and strive for excellence. You will gain an insight into all aspects of Dance and will be rewarded with a deeper understanding of the subject. Core areas you will explore include Dance technique, the art of choreography, anatomy, health and fitness, the history of Dance and the analysis of professional works. You will also enjoy opportunities to perform at a range of events, including the College Dance Show.

Entry requirements

A GCSE in dance is preferred but not compulsory. Grade C in at least 3 GCSE subjects including English and Maths or Science. Experience of dance styles such as ballet, contemporary and jazz is advised.

Assessment

There are two units, one practical and one theory at AS level (first year) and two units, one practical and one theory at A2 level (second year). A visiting examiner will attend the college between February and April to assess the practical units. In June of each year you will sit a written paper for the theory unit. You will be regularly assessed by your tutor throughout the year to monitor progress.
