Children's Play, Learning and Development BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Cowley International College

Course description

This course offers a practical and vocational route into fields
of childcare employment. Students are given access to a wide
range of specialist equipment, including interactive babies,
pregnancy simulator and model infants exposed to various
lifestyle induced disorders.

Course content

This qualification can be studied as an Award (1 A-level) or
Extended Certificate/Diploma (2/3 A-levels) and is ideal for
anyone who is interested in working with children.

Units include: Safeguarding children, Activities for children,
Diet and nutrition, The Psychology of children’s behaviour and
many others. A placement is essential for this course and due
to this requirement, the Extended Diploma course is taken
on its own without any other options being required. As the
course is now one of the new generation of BTECs it includes
one externally assessed unit.

Entry requirements

As this course is very specific and vocationally based, a desire
to work with children is a basic requirement. You will require
5 GCSE passes at grade C or above or the equivalent BTEC
grades. A good level of competence in English Language is
essential.

Future opportunities

This course provides you with many excellent routes for
entry into university at Honours or Foundation level. Areas
of employment that would be possible from these studies
include: nursery nurse, learning mentors, early years teaching,
classroom assistants, children’s nursing, au pair work or youth
work.
