Course description

How is the course assessed?The course is assessed entirely through coursework, there are currently no exams or terminal assessment. The assignments you are asked to complete may be in the form of assessed practical work, essays, leaflets, posters or presentations. Each unit consists of criteria at Pass, Merit and Distinction level. Each criterion can be met through completion of a task. These then add up to give an overall level for each unit of Pass, Merit or Distinction. The grades achieved in each unit combine to give an overall grade of Pass (equivalent to an E grade), Merit (equivalent to a C grade), Distinction (equivalent to an A grade) or Distinction * (equivalent to an A* grade).

What could I use this qualification for? This subject gains UCAS points equivalent to an AS or A2 qualification. It can be used to apply to university for a range of courses where a general Science qualification at Level 3 is required. Previous students have progressed to study subjects such as Psychology and Criminology at university.The subject also provides an excellent grounding for those looking to move into working in the Science industry, due to the high level of practical work in the units. Students will also leave with a clear understanding of the importance of health and safety legislation; of accuracy and precision in producing results and with experience of communicating scientific information. These are skills required by employers in all areas of Science.
