As/A2 Drama and Theatre Studies at Bridgewater High School

Course description

What will I study?

You will study a range of dramatic and theatre skills within the context of critical concepts and the discriminating use of specialist terminology. During unit one you will explore two contrasting play texts in a practical and active way. This will also be supported by a written portfolio of 3000 words. You will also be required to experience a live theatre performance, submitting a written evaluation of 1000 words. Unit 2 will require you to perform either a monologue or duologue and contribute to a performance of a professionally published play.

During unit 3 you will create a unique and original piece of theatre and unit 4 is in the form of a written examination whereby you will study one set play text and one chosen historical period of theatrical development.

AS Year: Units 1 & 2

A2 Year: Units 3 & 4

  • Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre

  • Unit 4: Theatre text in context

How will I be assessed?

Unit 1: Internally assessed on practical skills and 3000 word portfolio. Also, 1000 word evaluation on live theatre performance.

Unit 2: Externally assessed performances including 500 word written commentary and analysis.

Unit 3: Internally assessed practical unit including 3500 word written portfolio.

Unit 4: Written exam.

 

 

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s at A* - C or equivalent, including at least a grade C in English.
