ACE is a full-time transition courses for young people who have just left school. The course runs for 20 hours per week over 34 weeks and is designed for students who need a highly supportive environment in which to learn. The majority of, but not all, students on this course will have attended a special school or unit or have missed a significant amount of schooling.
ACE has a broad curriculum base and is designed to develop your social skills and work skills and prepare you for independent living. You will be taught in small groups and set targets to achieve. These targets and your progression towards their achievement will be monitored regularly in tutorial sessions. All students follow a core curriculum of Skills for Life, work related skills and Citizenship supported through IT. There are opportunities for Personal Development options depending on individual interests. You will have your individual needs assessed during your initial interview. Additional Support will be arranged to help you achieve your learning goals if necessary.
Students will work towards qualifications that are appropriate to their interests and abilities if appropriate.
You must possess a willingness to take part in new learning opportunities and to improve your literacy and numeracy and social skills. You also need to be committed to furthering your education.
You may be able to progress onto other Supported Learning courses eg Next Steps, Towards Independence or on to Level 1 Courses, Work Based Training or Employment.
