Music at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy

Course description

What the subject is about: AS level music continues on similar lines to GCSE with three basic areas of study, performing, composing and listening. However, it differs in that performing now means playing to an audience and the score of a composition is assessed, not the recording (therefore there is a greater emphasis on notation). Music is a relatively practical AS/A level and is a good contrast to other subjects but it does have both the practical and academic areas of study which in some ways makes it more demanding than other subjects for some students. At A2 Level students complete an investigation, report and composition; perform a short programme of ensemble music and analyse music through listening.
