BTEC Certificate in Applied Science Level 3 at Townsend CofE School

Course description

Three units of work covering fundamentals of science, working in the science industry and practical techniques. Topics include: measuring chemical reactions, cells and energy; scientific procedures and safety; planning and carrying out investigations.
This course provides a broad science qualification at this level as an alternative to studying any of the separate sciences at A’level.

All units are internally assessed. Assessments are assignment based and is done continually throughout the course. Each unit has specific assessment and grading criteria which have to be achieved in order to complete the course. Grades awarded are either ‘Pass’, ‘Merit’ or ‘Distinction’.

To have good attendance as course is assignment based and they are completed throughout the year. To be motivated to work on own both in school and at home to compliment the work done in lessons. To have pride in the production and presentation of their work. To be willing to act on feedback provided to improve work.

Entry requirements

Six or more GCSE grades at A*-C including English Language.
Average GCSE point score 4.6 or above.
Grade C in Science and/or Additional Science
