Philosophy & Ethics at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

As Unit 1 (Philosophy of Religion 1) - you will consider the ancient Greek philosophy of Plato and Aristotle and traditional arguments for the existence of God, challenges to religious belief from psychology and sociology and the problem of evil.
AS Unit 2 (Religious Ethics 1) - you will study both ethical theories (e.g. Kant, Bentham, Mill) and practical ethics as applied to medical ethics (e.g. euthanasia, abortion and genetic engineering)

A2 Unit 3 (Philosophy of Religion 2) - you will study differing views of life after death and religious experience, including the concepts of miracle and revelation and religious language. A2 Unit 4 (Religious Ethics 2) - you will study meta-ethics, free will, determinism, conscience and applied ethics.

Entry requirements

You do not need to have studied the full Religious Studies GCSE, although this could be useful. If you took the short course GCSE it should have prepared you to be enquiring, tolerant and able to express your ideas both orally and in writing.
