Religious Studies AS/ A2 at Dixons City Academy

Course description

This course combines a historical, philosophical and scientific approach to the study of religion.

Course content

Unit 1: Religion, Philosophy & Science: This involves looking at issues surrounding miracles, creation and design argument

Unit 2: Islam: Studying a variety of issues surrounding the Quran, Five Pillars, the concept of God and key beliefs

Both modules are taught in a way that develops research and critical thinking skills

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, preferably with a Grade B in GCSE Religious Education and English Language.

Assessment

All formal assessment is by traditional exams assessing candidates knowledge, understanding and evaluation skills. Two exams will be sat at the end of each year of study, each lasting 1 hour 30 minutes

Future opportunities

Religious Studies A Level is useful for degrees in the Arts & Social Sciences disciplines. Areas of work that some students have gone into are: the legal profession, teaching, journalism and social work.
