Course description

Y12: AS Unit 1 - Physical and Human Geography
A combination of structured short and extended questions. Topics covered:

* Rivers, floods and management
* Population change
* Coastal Environments
* Health Issues

Y12: AS Unit 2 - Geographical Skills
A geographical skills paper based upon a coursework visit to Hull and other practical geographical skills. Skills examined:

* Investigative skills - planning and undertaking coursework
* Cartographic skills
* Graphical skills
* ICT skills
* Statistical skills

Y13: A2 Unit 3 - Contemporary Geographical Issues
A combination of structured short and extended questions, plus an essay. Topics covered:

* Plate tectonics and associated hazards
* Weather, Climate and associated hazards
* World Cities

Y13: A2 Unit 4A - Geography Fieldwork Investigation
A geographical skills paper based upon independently planned fieldwork on a topic of students choosing. The exam questions are set to test how students can analyse and evaluate their own fieldwork.

Entry requirements

5 A*- C GCSEs (including English and Maths)

Plus a Grade B or higher in GCSE Geography. In rare cases students will be considered with a grade C in GCSE Geography, but this will be at the discretion of the Head of 6th Form and Head of Geography.
