Higher Project at Barrow-in-Furness Sixth Form College
You will be interested in learning and practising the research, analysis and presentation skills so highly valued by universities and employers. The Higher Project is a major piece of work in which you choose a topic or a question that is of particular interest to you. It may be a topic that relates to a possible career area or something arising from a college subject that you would like to explore further. Alternatively, it may be something relating to a hobby or an area of personal interest. It can be a useful addition to an A level programme of study as it helps you to develop as an independent learner and to sharpen your research and writing skills. It allows you to demonstrate your ability to plan and see through a project independently. A Higher Project should extend your knowledge and skills in ways that are challenging and new to you. During your project, you will be learning new knowledge in your chosen area, developing new skills, and bringing together skills and ideas from different subject areas. You will choose how to present your project. You will either create an artefact, accompanied by a written report, or you will explore a topic through a research question and write up your findings in an extended report.
Some students will do the Higher Project alongside A level subjects. Others may study this qualification as part of their tutorial work.
