Dance (BTEC Diploma) at Sandown Bay Academy
Course Overview : The BTEC Diploma is a practical course, which offers a fantastic opportunity for learners to specialise in Dance through a vocational course. Students learn by completing projects, assignments and performances that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Assessment Requirements : Assessment is divided into 12 units. You must study four compulsory units and a further eight specialist units: Compulsory Units: Performing to an Audience, Dance Performance, Performance Workshop, and Performing Arts Business. Specialist units: Developing Contemporary Dance, Urban Dance, Jazz Dance, Choreographic Principles, Dance Improvisation, and Site Specific Performance amongst others. Students will be expected to complete a series of assignments throughout each of the units. Assessment in the modules is mostly practical with a small amount of informal written assessment being used in some of the assignments. There is no final examination for this course. Post-18 Progression : what it can lead to … University Degree in Dance/ Performing Arts, performance work, Masters in Dance Science, Masters in Choreography, Masters in Dance Therapy, Community Dance Work, Dance Teaching (Royal Academy of Dance courses/ High School or College Dance teacher). This course goes well with : Other creative subjects (Music, Drama/ Theatre Studies, Art) or to balance an academic curriculum (History, Geography, Languages).
