Level 1 Award in Personal and Social Development at Skillnet Ltd

Course description

This Level 1 qualification is designed to help learners aged 14-19 years old to develop key personal and social skills, behaviours and attitudes that will build confidence in their own abilities and also how to demonstrate and apply these effectively. The Award aims to achieve this by using practical tasks, set in the retail automotive context. These tasks allow learners to tackle new activities and challenges individually and as part of a group. They will improve learners' social interaction and help them to develop skills that will prepare them to look for, obtain and maintain employment. Performance Points Students who pass this course will earn 12.5 AAT performance points and will contribute 10% towards the achievement of the Level 1 GCSE target. In order to pass this qualification, learners must demonstrate its learning outcomes by following and achieving its IMI Awards’ Assessments. IMI Awards has created a set of assessments to be completed by learners for each of their selected units. The majority of the tasks within the assessments will be assessed via observation and oral questioning. Some units also contain short Learner Task Sheets for learners to complete independently. These assessments are designed to ensure rigour and quality of assessment by measuring the learner’s underpinning knowledge.

Entry requirements

Learners will normally need to have a basic level of literacy and numeracy to enable them to successfully complete this qualification. This course is suitable for students who have achieved level 4 in their teacher assessments at the end of Key Stage 3. Applicants will be interviewed by a tutor from Skillnet and undertake an initial assessment. Learners who are successful will be offered a place on the course The qualification meets the Personal and Social Development (PSD) requirements within the Foundation Learning programme, which supports learners in their preparation to make the step from school to work life.
