Biology AS/A2 Level at Northampton School for Boys

Course description

You will be studying the OCR Biology specification which is an interesting and challenging course to build up an excellent understanding of this subject.

 

Course content

During year 12 you will study:

Module 1 – Development of practical skills

Module 2 – Foundations in Biology

Module 3 – Exchange and transport

Module 4 – Biodiversity, evolution and disease

 

During year 13 you will study:

Module 5 – Communications, homeostasis and energy

Module 6 – Genetics, evolution, and ecosystems

Entry requirements

Along with the School’s minimum requirements, you will need a minimum grade B in Biology (triple science) or BB (Core Science and Additional Science). 

Students at Northampton School for Boys will have studied AQA GCSE Science either as separate sciences or as double award.  This is a good general grounding in all the Sciences.

Assessment

Throughout the two years there will be termly assessments and examinations.  The three written public examinations will all take place at the end of Year 13; Paper 1 Biological Processes, Paper 2 Biological Diversity and Paper 3 Unified Biology.
