Performing Arts Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma at Bridgwater College

Course description

The course is practical in nature and suitable for students considering pathways into the Performing Arts industry or higher education performance arts training.

Course content

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts provides skills within all aspects of the three disciplines of dance, acting and singing. The course also provides opportunities to develop skills in creativity and performance, audition preparation and professional training in each discipline. The course is defined through a variety of unit options, enabling students to develop, both practical and theoretical skills in each discipline

All students study a combination of dance, drama and singing units to give a broad introduction to the many aspects within performing arts.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs grades A*- C or BTEC Level 2 Diploma (merit/distinction grade profile); Dance, Drama, Music or Expressive Arts subjects would be an advantage, as well as performance experience in or out of school. Entry is also subject to a successful interview and audition.


This is a very practical course and we assess you in a variety of ways;

  • Assessment is by coursework based on assignments set in each unit
  • Assignments will involve: performance projects, individual research, group work and project work
  • Assessments are graded at Distinction, Merit or Pass
  • On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an overall Distinction, Merit or Pass grade

These have included: The Italia Conti Academy, Laban Centre for Movement & Dance, Bath Spa University, Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, Chichester University, Urdang Academy, Northern Contemporary Dance School, Guildford School of Acting, Laine Theatre Arts College, Rose Bruford,Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, Academy of Live and Recorded Arts School and East 15 Drama School. Our Performing Arts students have also gained employment in the entertainment or leisure industries.
