Travel & Tourism A Level at Havant Sixth form College

Course description

The travel and tourism industries are growing rapidly, opening up huge opportunities for further study and employment in the UK and overseas. On this course you’ll develop skills highly valued by universities and potential employers such as planning, organisational and evaluation skills, team building and individual project management.

Course content

There are four mandatory units:

  • Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector
  • The Business of Travel and Tourism
  • The UK as a Destination
  • Customer Service in Travel and Tourism

Optional units include:

  • European Destinations
  • Long-Haul Travel Destinations

Entry requirements

  • BTEC First Diploma (Merit profile) plus English Language GCSE grade 4 or above.
  • Five GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 or above including English Language.


You will be assessed through a range of internal assessments.

Future opportunities

Students from this course successfully progress into employment within the travel industry. Previous students have found employment in a variety of areas, from working in a travel agency or as a Holiday Representative, to careers in the hotel and catering industries. Many students go on to study tourism and event management and international hospitality at university, before taking up management careers in the travel and tourism industries at home and abroad.

Further information

You’ll visit local hotels and visitor attractions and take part in residential study visits abroad and in the UK. Previous destinations have included Paris, Barcelona, New York and Florida.
