Home Economics (Food & Nutrition) at Kettering Buccleuch Academy

Course content

This GCSE is now offered in place of GCSE Food Technology. The specification for the subject seeks to prepare students for living in a contemporary, changing and multi-cultural society. The subject covers the following areas: v Nutrition and Health. v Food choices. v Food preparation and processing. v Deterioration, safety and preservation of food. v Marketing, advertising and consumer education.

Assessment

One external examination sat at the end of year 11 worth 50% of the marks  Three pieces of coursework which includes: v An individual task which is the major piece of coursework. The task can be based on any area of the subject content and may arise from a personal area of interest of the student.  This is worth 30% of the assessment for the course.  v Two resource tasks which are short focused assessments with the emphasis placed on the implementation of practical skills.  This is worth 20% of the assessment for the course.
