Business Studies at Wollaston School
This course aims to give students an awareness of how businesses function. Key topics are types of Business Organisations, Location, Production, Marketing, Accounts, Sources of Finance, Recruitment and Retention of Staff, Consumer Protection Laws, Pressure Groups, Business Ethics and Economic Influences upon Businesses. Students are required to have an understanding of how local companies operate and current local business issues. Parents can support students by discussing local business events. Coursework Requirements There is one piece of coursework and it is worth 25% of the final grade. This is usually completed at the start of Year 11 and is based upon students studying the marketing of a chosen product. Students are required to find information such as: details of the product, prices of the product in numerous locations, examples of how the product is promoted (advertising, sponsorship, competition etc). Marks are awarded for using a variety of techniques to present the work, analysis of information and recommendations. The summer holiday is the best time for students to collect relevant research!
