Course description

Are you creative, do you love the buzz you get when you have a new idea, are you visually aware and notice beauty in everything around you?  Do you have opinions, are you articulate and passionate?  Can you solve problems, do you consider new ways of doing things that may be better, do you have good technical ability when drawing/painting or even better both, and are you ready to challenge yourself and your teachers?

A crucial subject if you are considering Art at university either at Foundation or degree level.

Course content

Art and Design is a flexible and adaptable AS / A2 Level for anyone with a real interest in the visual arts.  The staff are flexible and adaptable and will support you in whatever discipline you want to work.

Yes, we like you to be able to draw primarily but your ideas can be realised through painting, printing, sculpture, installation, photography and film, to mention just a few.  We will support you to achieve highly, all we ask is that you work with commitment and drive, show initiative and growing independence, and most importantly meet deadlines.

In the Summer of 2012 our Art & Design A Level entry of 28 students saw 27 of them achieving a grade C or better, beating National figures considerably.

5 A* - C at GCSE

B in Art & Design/Fine Art at GCSE

Future opportunities

With qualifications in Art & Design you can go into further study at Foundation / Degree specialising in:  fashion, textiles, graphics, illustration, media and advertising, film making, 3D design etc.  If you are considering Art and Design as a career after school then studying two Art and Design based A Levels may be appropriate
