BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in Dance at King Alfred's Academy

Course description

The course will run for 2 years and is the equivalent of one A level. It is made up of 6 units: Performing to an Audience, Dance Performance, Dance Appreciation, Developing Movement Skills, and Choreographing Dance. Students will then choose the final unit in year 13. Students will learn how to create dances to a specific brief, appreciate professional works by artist such as Christopher Bruce and Mathew Bourne. They will also improve their performance skills in a number of different styles and specifically improve their Contemporary dance technique.

In addition to the above units, students will develop leadership skills as they will have responsibility for sections of King Alfred’s Dance Productions and may get the opportunity to create their own dance production. Students will have the opportunity to attend a number of theatre trips both locally and further afield.

Entry requirements

Typically students need at the very least 5 or more GCSE’s at grade C or above to be successful on an Advanced Course. There are more than 30 subjects to choose from though some may require more than a C grade.

Students wishing to study this subject will need to achieve a minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE qualifications including BTEC’s.
