Sports Leader Award (HSLA) offered as part of a full time Level 3 programme at Sandown Bay Academy

Course description

The Level 3 Award in Higher Sports Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful candidates to lead un-supervised groups of people in sport and recreational activities. This qualification builds upon the skills and experience gained through the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership. The qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through the medium of sport. It is a fun and practical qualification, with the only entrance requirement being that candidates should have successfully completed the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership; however there are no final examinations to sit. The Level 3 Award in Higher Sports Leadership consists of nine units of work, of which nine must be completed: Unit Unit Title 1 Introduction to higher sports leadership 2 Sports leadership in the community 3 Principles and practice for children in sport* 4 Principles and practice for older people in sport* 5 Principles and practice for disabled people in sport* 6 Understanding fitness and health in sport 7 Dealing with First Aid and emergency situations in sport 8 Demonstration of higher sports leadership skills 9 Organising and running a sports event
