A Level Physical Education at Ousedale School

Course description

The AS and A2 Physical Education course will encourage candidates to become increasingly physically competent and develop their understanding of concepts and principles underlying sport and Physical Education. You will pursue theoretical factors through practical performance. You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate knowledge of principles, definitions and concepts of Sport and Physical Education. These will include factors effecting efficiency and effectiveness of performance, skill acquisition and the development and establishment of Physical Education and Sport in the society.

Course content

AS Level Modules
Unit 1: An introduction to Physical Education:
Anatomy and Physiology (Section A)
Acquiring Movement Skills (Section B)
Socio-Cultural Studies (Section C)
Unit 2: Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education

A2 Level Modules
Unit 3: Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical Education Section A:
- Historical Studies (Option A1)
- Comparative Studies (Option A2)
Section B:
- Sports Psychology (Option B1)
- Biomechanics (Option B2)
- Exercise and Sport Physiology (Option B3)
Unit 4: The Improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in Physical Education

Entry requirements

5 x A* - C at GCSE level. Minimum B grade or above in PE GCSE.



Coursework: 40%
Examination: 60%


Coursework: 30%
Examination: 70%
