General Studies at Poole Grammar School
Some students may take General Studies for AS and A2. There will be an option to take the subject, if they wish, to enhance their points score and possible University offer. Students will take General Studies if they drop a subject at AS level to ensure they have sufficient point scores/qualifications to take them into HE (higher education). The subject is not taught overtly as it is covered through a range of ‘enrichment’ activities, guest speakers, tutor periods and their chosen subjects.
Places on AS Level courses can, subject to available places, normally be offered to applicants who meet the minimum course requirements. These are usually based on the applicant’s best 8 GCSE results, including English and Mathematics, with a minimum of 344 points, with an A* A or B grade in the subjects chosen - or a related discipline, if appropriate (in Mathematics, the minimum grade of B must be at Higher Tier).
