Electrical - City and Guilds 2357 Electro-Technical Qualification (Electrical Installation) Level 3 at Calderdale College

Course description

This course is the recognised City & Guilds qualification which all apprentices, trainees and full time learners have to complete. The course covers all aspects of the science and installation theory as well as the health and safety requirements for working on site.

Course content

With the help of your experienced instructors you will learn all the hands on skills and theory required to achieve the standard of a fully qualified Electrician. This will include aspect of domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural installation that are aimed at today’s installers and includes study on the newer solar photo-voltaic (PV solar panels) and related renewable energy technologies! You will simulate real life installation activities and through online and on-site assessments along with coursework and building a portfolio you will show employers that you have the skills needed to be a valued part of the workforce. The qualification will enable you to:• manage electrical work effectively • gain a grasp of electrical science principles • practice the installation of many types of wiring system and circuits both single and three phase • gain experience of installation design • study advanced electrical principles such as motors • inspect and test and fault find electrical installations

Entry requirements

School leavers will require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include Maths and English.  All applicants will be required to undertake a college assessment and interview. Full time learners under 19 must have achieved a level one electrical qualification.


Candidates are assessed through one online external examinations to assess their electrical knowledge. In addition there are written exams and practical exams also there will be assignments to complete each unit.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

Candidates may wish to progress on to the Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS:7671 2008), C & G 2382, C & G 2391.
