Course description

Knowledge Element - Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science - delivered over 2 years and requiring the Apprentice to attend Trafford College on a day release basis. The course covers topics such as:* Practical Chemical Analysis* Physiology of Human Body Systems* Working in the Science Industry* Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques* Energy changes, Sources and ApplicationsCompetence Element - PAA/VQSET Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Laboratory & Associated Technical Activities - delivered over 2 years in the workplace.Functional Skills -Functional Skills in Mathematics, English and Information & Communications Technology at Level 2 (if required)Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) -The Apprentice is required to complete a workbook evidencing work or college activities in each of the 6 areas within the 2 years of the Apprenticeship in* Creative Thinking* Independent Enquiry* Reflective Learning* Team Working* Self Management * Effective ParticipationEmployee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) -The Apprentice is required to complete a workbook evidencing their knowledge of the work environment with the 2 years of the Apprenticeship

Entry requirements

5 GCSE's at Grade A*- C to include Mathematics, English Language and at least one Science.

Assessment

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science is assessed via regularly set assignments covering each unit of the qualification to ascertain the Apprentices learning. These can be awarded grades of Pass, Merit or Distinction.The PAA/VQSET Level 3 NVQ Diploma is assessed by an assessor who will visit the Apprentices workplace on a monthly basis. The Apprentice uses an e-Portfolio to gather real workplace evidence of competence which is measured against Nationally recognised standards. Methods of assessment may include, direct observation of practical skills, oral questions, written statements and projects.Functional Skills (if required) are delivered in College and require extra days attendance to complete (up to 6 days per Functional Skill)
