Photography Level 3 Diploma at Stratford-upon-Avon College

Course description

Do you want a career as a creative professional?

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography provides you with the skill, knowledge and visual understanding to succeed in this exciting and challenging industry. Our course gives you the opportunity to develop a wide range of technical skills in Adobe Photoshop, film-based photography, digital photography, documentary, portraiture, studio, still life, darkroom, location lighting and fashion photography and more.

We also help you develop visual awareness and attributes essential for employment in the industry or progression to Higher Education. Visits to local and national galleries form an important part of the course, and you are encouraged to take part in competitions, live briefs and exhibitions.

Entry requirements

You will need to have at least:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade C / grade 4 or above including English Language, or;
  • Level 2 qualification in a relevant vocational subject area and GCSE English Language at grade C / grade 4 or above.

On interview you are requested to present a portfolio. This is to consist of 10-15 photographs that you have taken and are able to discuss, and any artwork or sketchbooks.


You will be assessed through the completion of assignments and creative projects throughout the course. Attendance and application in all areas is essential for successful completion.

Further information

A list of art materials required for the course will be issued during induction. Study visits to museums and art galleries are included in the programme. Additional visits where applicable for specific coursework input are also required. Students must access the art studios off timetable to continue working on coursework and complete private study of at least three hours a week.
