Sporting Excellence (Women's Rugby) Advanced Apprenticeship at Brockenhurst College

Course description

This 2 year apprenticeship for women has been devised to allow young People the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge needed to perform at the highest level with the ultimate goal of becoming an elite performer.


Course content

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence)
  • or A Levels
  • or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport
  • NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance

The teaching methods are varied but centre around either classroom based lectures or practical work with fellow students.

You will be expected to undertake coursework assignments for the BTEC qualifications and build portfolios of evidence for the NVQ qualification.

Entry requirements


For this Level 2 or 3 course you must be at least 16 years old and have been selected on your rugby ability.

You can study A levels or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) alongside your NVQ and rugby. 

Level 2 students will study BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Sport.


Students will achieve certification in the different elements of the course to reflect their proficiency in the wide range of skills taught.  Assessment methods vary for each of the different units. 

Students will be expected to complete written case studies, practical assessment, and portfolio assessment and Tutor assessments. Students will be set regular homework assignments.

Future opportunities

The course will enable you to progress into elite international/club rugby in both the 7’s and 15’s format.

This level 3 course can also lead to study a higher education for degrees in sports related courses and enter the BUCS Premier league which can lead to potential scholarships.
