Geography A Level at John F Kennedy Catholic School

Course description

At JFK we follow the new EDEXCEL A level course. The course covers a broad range of physical and human geography topics including amongst others, tectonic processes, coasts, the global economy, settlement evolution and global development.

The course encourages students to make links between the natural environment and human activity. An exploration of contemporary global issues and their management provides students with a secure understanding of the world we live in today whilst developing an appreciation of the needs of future generations.

Fieldwork and research play an important role in the coursework component (20%) of the course and to aid this students attend a 5 day residential field trip early in year 13. Students are also given the opportunity to take part in our international experience trips. The course is taught by 2 members of staff and delivered over 9 hours per fortnight. .

Entry requirements

There is no specific need to have studied geography at GCSE.

An interest in global matters coupled with a secure profile of GCSE grades in all subjects is required.
