Course description

Fashion is about creative and critical thinking to develop outcomes which meet the needs of different design briefs. This is done through exploring and researching themes before experimenting with different materials, techniques and process to develop your ideas from paper in to finish products.

Course content

Unit 3 – The Creative Process Unit 15 – Fashion Materials, Techniques and Processes

75% Internal assessed coursework

Unit 1 – Visual Recording and Communication

Unit 2 – Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design

25% Externally assessed written and research based tasks

Entry requirements

Ideally Grade B in GCSE Product Design / D&T Textiles or Merit in BTEC Textiles/ Fashion and grade 5 in Art – as part of 5 or more 9-5 grades or equivalent.

Future opportunities

This is ideal preparation for students who wish to choose a career in a Fashion related occupation. This is a vocational course, which will give you the opportunity to expand your creative portfolio, skills and techniques. The Level 3 BTEC enables progression to degree-level foundation and HND style courses and this course has been designed to give as much understanding of the fashion industry as possible to provide you with a solid basis to begin a career in Fashion, which can lead to employment opportunities in Fashion Design, Contour Design, Accessory Design, Fashion Buying, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Styling, Fashion Management, Fashion Journalism (if taken with A level English). Ideally progression to HE is recommended for careers in Fashion, although there are opportunities locally for students wishing to go straight into work following 6th Form.
