Media BTEC Level 2 at Waltham Forest College

Course description

The interactive digital media courses are for people hoping to work as a creative in digital media design, game design, publishing, visual effects, advertising and marketing businesses. You will undertake projects on digital drawing and image manipulation, animation, illustration, graphic design, storytelling and video production. Webpages, on-line videos, animation, photography and illustration are well established forms of communication for all businesses. This course will help you develop the abilities to work independently and in teams, to a client brief, to create original visual and written content for digital media.

Course content

You will study:
Digital Illustration - drawing techniques
Digital image-making and manipulation
Graphic Design - layout and design principles
Animation - Digital animation and stop-motion animation
Moving image and video production
Analysing and writing about design and media
Adobe Creative Suite software - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects and Flash

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs D and above including maths and English or Merit in an appropriate level1 qualification. Portfolio of work will be required at interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course by project based assignments with set deadlines and awarded a pass, merit or distinction in addition some units are moderated externally.

Future opportunities

This vocational course serves as an introduction to interactive digital media. Some students may progress to work or to the Level 3 BTEC in Interactive Digital Media, apprenticeships or employment.

      Trains run to Walthamstow Central from Liverpool Street station (a bus can then be taken to the College, see below). Wood Street station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the College.

      Tube:

      The Victoria Line ends at Walthamstow Central, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to the College. Alternatively, you can get a bus, see below.

      Bus:

      From Walthamstow Central:Bus 275 stops outside the College, 212 stops across the road from the College (Shernhall Street). Buses 97, 357, 34 or 215 stop at the 'Bell Corner' (junction of Hoe Street and Forest Road). From here, the College is approximately five-minute walk.

      From Blackhorse Road Tube Station: Bus 123 also stops outside the College on route between Tottenham and Ilford
